InSites 2009 Highlights ARVC’s InSites 2009 Convention and Outdoor Hospitality Expo brought an even brighter shine to the happiest place on earth. Held at the beautiful Rosen Centre and Orange County Convention Center, this year’s Orlando-based convention lived up to its tagline. From all accounts it truly was a “Passport to a World of Opportunity”.

The event kicked off with our Annual Meeting. President Profaizer and Chairman Anderson shared the state of our association with members. They reported that overall, our sector of the industry held steady and in many cases business was slightly up, the 2009 budget is solid, and for the second year in a row there will not be a 2010 increase in ARVC membership dues.

Learning opportunities were abundant with nearly two dozen professional development seminars. Attendees had an opportunity to get their education “passports” stamped at some terrific CPO- rated seminars including a fantastic “best ideas” exchange, social media 101, estate and succession planning, and more. This year’s POOT tour and both all day seminars – FUNdation and OSHA – were value-packed, providing attendees with information that can be applied in their parks immediately.

Three general session/panel discussions took place and each one was packed with information:

Monday we heard from a panel of industry leaders including our very own President Profaizer, Richard Coon, President, RVIA, Pat Hittmeier, COO, KOA, Vic Nolting, Vice-Chair, LSI, and Ron Beard, CPO, of Ron Beard and Associates.

Tuesday Aubrey King and David Gorin of King & Gorin – ARVC’s Government Affairs team – discussed current and upcoming issues. We also heard from Bill Stevens of music licensor SESAC. The floor was opened to questions and a good discussion followed.

Thursday our panel consisted of Harris Rosen, CEO, Rosen Hotels and Resorts, Tammi Runzler, VP Convention Sales, Orlando/Orange County Convention/Visitors Bureau, Dickie Riegel, COO, Thor, and Darren Loblaw, CFO, Ripley Entertainment, Inc.

In all, the panel discussions offered insight into what most affects our businesses today as well as our future opportunities.

The ARVC Foundation hosted an assortment of events and raised money while delivering a great time in the name of advancing educational opportunities for ARVC members. From the annual Golf Tourney – generously sponsored by LSI to the “All-Star” Foundation Auction (which raised over $25,000) to the “Home Run Derby” Sweepstakes, the Foundation fundraisers were a success.

This year’s amazing Expo boasted over 100 unique companies offering the latest products and services. The Door Prize Giveaway was a hit, awarding wonderful prizes donated by exhibitors, culminating with one lucky winner walking away with a full 2010 InSites registration package.
