Did you know...
- that CPO stands for Certified Park Operator -- not to be mistaken for the Certified Pool Operator certification process
- there is no minimum experience that you must have in order to start the process but, to earn your CPO, you must have at least 12 months of employment or ownership in a campground. Seasonal experience will require a longer time period.
- that just because you fill out a CPO form that you are not automatically enrolled in the CPO. There are steps that you need to follow
- Fill out the Enrollment Form by clicking here, or contact the ARVC office so that we can send you a form. Your state association will have this form as well.
- Pay an enrollment fee of $100 for members and $125 for non-members. (In the ARVC Report these dollar amounts were incorrect)
- After you receive your CPO manual, there are forms in the manual where you can let us know your past and current experience so we can give you ‘work’ and ‘life’ experience’ credits as well. The CPO Fast Track process is for those who already have completed two years of the National School, plus two years campground experience and attended two state/regional/national conventions. (Clarifying information from the ARVC Report)
- An acknowledgement will be sent with a CPO manual once everything is processed.
- You will receive updates on your CPO status each time you attend the National School or submit a CPO Credit Form proving attendance and participation in the educational seminars.
- CPO course credits are not awarded retroactively. One can earn credits only while actively enrolled in the program
So how do you obtain these credits?
CPO Courses - National ARVC programs including the National Convention, POOT- Park Operators on Tour, and the National School of RV Parks and Campground Management are eligible for CPO credit. In addition to courses offered through National ARVC there are state, regional, agency and organization programs that may also offer courses routinely approved for CPO credits. Credit is awarded for "standard" courses required by state and local governmental agencies and insurance carriers. Courses like first aid, sewage treatment plant operator, pool operator, propane safety, may be applied to CPO coursework.
CPO enrollees should also consider the many seminars and workshops available through their local Chamber, community colleges and universities, vocational and technical school and adult education. It is recommended that prior approval be secured before enrollment to insure that the credits will transfer.
