Music & Movie Licensing for 2009


A copyright is property owned by a person or group of people including books, records, movies, computer software and music.  Music and movies are like all personal property – when you want to borrow it from someone you must ask permission.  All public performances of music and movies, even most non-profit ones, must be licensed (with a few exceptions, such as performances in the course of a religious service at a place of worship, or face-to-face teaching in non-profit education institutions).  Music and movies are the property of the people who create them. 


This is the requirement by Title 17 of the US Code, also known as the U.S. Copyright Law.


 ARVC has negotiated discounts with the three congressionally mandated music licensing companies (BMI, ASCAP, & SESAC) and the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC).   To sign up for these licenses, please see the information below:
